Research and considerations

Purposeful team formation and prior academic performance are established considerations in engineering education, but the research does not identify one universally best pairing rule. Quiz averages are an incomplete proxy for preparation and do not measure communication, availability, motivation, practical skills, or teamwork. Large skill gaps may also create unequal participation. Instructor review remains important.
